{"id":2375,"date":"2019-03-13T14:55:00","date_gmt":"2019-03-13T14:55:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.harrowschool.hk\/?p=2375"},"modified":"2025-03-04T07:44:09","modified_gmt":"2025-03-04T07:44:09","slug":"audience-with-diplomat-mr-jesus-seade","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.harrowhongkong.hk\/his\/audience-with-diplomat-mr-jesus-seade\/","title":{"rendered":"Audience with Diplomat Mr Jes\u00fas Seade"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Harrow Hong Kong\u2019s Sixth Form Economists were delighted to have an audience with Mr Jes\u00fas Seade, Undersecretary for North America for the Mexican Government, this week.<br><br>Mr Seade played an instrumental role for Mexico in the creation of the World Trade Organisation, and subsequently became the founding deputy head of the WTO. More recently, he was the chief negotiator for Mexico in the negotiation of the USMCA trade agreement (NAFTA 2).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Years 12-13 Economics pupils were given a point of view often missing from a textbook description of international trade theory; namely, the losses caused by trade, which explains why there is often vehement domestic resistance to it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Mr Seade spoke about the painful social adjustments that had to be made in Japan, Korea, China, the US and UK as trade advanced and markets opened over the past century.
