JavaScript is needed to display this video player!<\/noscript>\n<!--player code end-->\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading gold\">ONLINE<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>At the start of the 2020 academic year, the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/sites.google.com\/harrowschool.hk\/harrowlibrary\/home?pli=1\">Harrow School Library Hub<\/a>&nbsp;was launched. Students have access to thousands of academic articles, journals, magazines, newspapers and databases to meet all of their research needs whether at home or in school.&nbsp; Our&nbsp;<em>Sora<\/em>&nbsp;ebook lending library offers over 1,800 middle grade and young adult novels while our Lower School students have access to&nbsp;<em>Epic<\/em>&nbsp;ebooks and audiobooks for early readers.&nbsp; The Library subscribes to a number of databases including&nbsp;<em>Britannica, National Geographic, Gale Virtual Reference Library, BrainPop, JSTOR, Massolit<\/em>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<em>Hodder A-Level<\/em>&nbsp;magazine archives.&nbsp; School-wide newspaper subscriptions now include&nbsp;<em>The FT, SCMP, The New York Times, The Sunday Times, The Week<\/em>, plus&nbsp;<em>First News<\/em>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<em>Learn The News<\/em>&nbsp;for junior pupils.&nbsp; We have recently acquired a subscription to&nbsp;<em>Newsbank<\/em>, a collection of over 6,500 newspapers from around the world which we encourage teachers and pupils to engage with regularly.&nbsp; Our website is also home to&nbsp;<em>Harrovians Recommend,<\/em>&nbsp;a page of book reviews and recommendations for students by students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading gold\">THE COLLECTION<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>We have over 25,000 books in our library, including an extensive Chinese fiction collection. \u202f We aim to provide a wide range of titles that will expose students to many genres of writing across diverse topics. We are constantly adding new titles, from current best sellers, acclaimed award winners to books recommended by teachers for specific departmental needs to support the curriculum, as well as by pupils in lessons and via student library representatives.\u202f<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading gold\">EVENTS<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Library hosts virtual author visits throughout the year to promote reading and the creative process behind books. We support and host competitions during Book Week every year and the 2021\u202fInspired By Books\u202fart competition winners are proudly displayed in our Library.\u202f We have introduced the Harrow Library book tasting where students are invited to read extracts of different books, trying genres that they might not otherwise explore.\u202f The Library offers a number of SCAs in each term including the\u202fBring Me A Book Hong Kong\u202fcharity SCA who organise money-raising events for the charity, and the\u202fBattle of the Books\u202fSCA, supporting the teams to train for the book-quiz competition held in Hong Kong each year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-essential-blocks-accordion harrow-accordion  root-eb-accordion-3md3bq6\"><div class=\"eb-parent-wrapper eb-parent-eb-accordion-3md3bq6 \"><div class=\"eb-accordion-container eb-accordion-3md3bq6\" data-accordion-type=\"accordion\" data-tab-icon=\"fas fa-angle-right\" data-expanded-icon=\"fas fa-angle-down\" data-transition-duration=\"500\"><div class=\"eb-accordion-inner\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-essential-blocks-accordion-item eb-accordion-item-6mghp3c eb-accordion-wrapper\" data-clickable=\"false\"><div class=\"eb-accordion-title-wrapper eb-accordion-title-wrapper-eb-accordion-3md3bq6\" tabindex=\"0\"><span class=\"eb-accordion-icon-wrapper eb-accordion-icon-wrapper-eb-accordion-3md3bq6\"><span class=\"fas fa-angle-right eb-accordion-icon\"><\/span><\/span><div class=\"eb-accordion-title-content-wrap title-content-eb-accordion-3md3bq6\"><h3 class=\"eb-accordion-title\">Director of Libraries<\/h3><\/div><\/div><div class=\"eb-accordion-content-wrapper eb-accordion-content-wrapper-eb-accordion-3md3bq6\"><div class=\"eb-accordion-content\">\n<p><strong>Ms Julia Besnard, Director of Libraries<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ms. Besnard joined Harrow Hong Kong as Director of Libraries in 2022. She originally moved to Hong Kong for a one-year adventure, which turned into\u2026 seven years and counting! Ms. Besnard holds a master&#8217;s in library science and Cultural Management from Universit\u00e9 Sorbonne Nouvelle and Universit\u00e9 Paris 10 Nanterre in Paris, France. Prior to joining Harrow Hong Kong, she worked as Chief Librarian at Alliance Fran\u00e7aise de Hong Kong (a cultural centre dedicated to promoting French) and Teacher Librarian at The Harbour School. She currently serves as co-convenor of ALESS Hong Kong (the Association of Librarians in English-Speaking Schools).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Outside school, she enjoys reading (especially picture books), listening to podcasts, hiking, and exploring Hong Kong\u2019s amazing food scene.
